Yates County is truly a unique place—a place that is largely an unknown entity within the region and state but sought out by the rest of the world! Yates County is dotted with bucolic farms and boasts trillions of gallons of fresh water but is far and away leading the Finger Lakes region in manufacturing job growth. The county has the cultural diversity where you are likely to see a $100,000 boat being trailered on its way to Keuka Lake passing a horse and buggy. Penn Yan is a community where Mennonite farmers share the same parking lot as Fortune 500 Executives and university presidents. The county has a reputation of being a small, rural community in the middle of nowhere, yet it’s within an hour’s drive of 750,000 people. Yates County may seem difficult to reach, but nearly one million people annually find their way here to enjoy Keuka, Seneca or Canandaigua Lakes or the 100+ craft beverage makers in the county alone.
These are some of the efforts that the Chamber provides our community at large:
We maintain a health insurance program that covers nearly 2,000 Yates County residents.
Group health insurance is offered at a discounted rate to businesses who live or work in Yates County, whom are not eligible for Medicare and whom insure at least one employee. Enrollment requires membership; the current minimum investment is $295/year.
A group may enroll in health insurance the first of any month, enrollment in direct plans or on exchange December-January with an effective date of January 1, February 1 or March 1.
We have NYS Licensed staff on hand to help with coverage interpretation and enrollment. They are trained on the group insurances, direct and on the NY Exchange.

Defensive Driving Course
Each month, the chamber offers a defensive driving course for individuals who are looking to save up to 10% on their liability and collision insurance and remove up to four points off their license. This 6-hour course can be taken once every 3 years and is overseen by the National Safety Council in Syracuse. For the convenience of the working individual, some classes are broken up into two consecutive nights of 3 hours each evening, while the other classes are a one-day Saturday 6-hour class.
The cost of the course is $40 and advanced registration is required. To register for the next Defensive Driving Course (remember, you don’t have to be a member to sign-up!) please call the Chamber at 315.536.3111 or visit our events calendar to view upcoming available classes.
